| This Page is done by Ellen Schloss of Beaks and Noses Rescue - and dedicated to the parrots of Katrina and Rita- With a special thank you to Donna Powell of www.911parrotalert.com, who has rescued hundreds upon hundreds of Parrots. She has opened up her home to these poor homeless birds. some birds were found trapped in cages in homes, a lot were still alive with water 1/2 way up into thier cages, birds with heads held high enough away from the water to keep from downing. some had already drowned, as the folks were not allowed to take their animals with them when Katrina hit. The flooding was not normal flooding, water was filled with feces and very unhealthy to even look at let alone walk in or drive in to find these poor babies. Can you imagine? look at these pictures to the right ??? Can you imagine going through something like that? Or your poor innocent bird that can not speak for himself? Well Donna Did, and she made homes for all the birds she has found, and so far have found the originally owners of many of these lost souls. The Avian community all knew Donna Powell, as she ran a lost and found parrot list on the internet, everybody jumped in to help out. some wend there in person, some collected donations, some passed out flyers. we all did what we could to help her out. . WHen the birds were brought back to original owner, they went home with brand new cages, new toys and tons of food. For some odd reason there has been some negative comments about Donna and what she is doing? I do not undertand why, and this is what brought me to do this page. To show all the support she is getting from us now and to continue for as long as she needs us. look at those pictures, can you imagine one of your parrots flying through that, because he was out of the cage and the roof was blown off the house? I am sure most of you have been through some nasty weather, but nothing would compare to Katrina - please click on the links to the left to see more. (still under construction) |
